Batting Lineup

Both Agarkar and Sharma emphasized the focus on the ‘batting depth’ during the press conference. India’s batting has always been up to the mark but this time it lacks a left-handed batsman as compared to the squad of the 2011 World Cup.

All the batsmen including the top order Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, and middle order Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, and Hardik Pandya are right-handed batsmen. Previously the winning World Cup Indian squad possessed Gautam Gambhir and  Yuvraj Singh as left-handed batsmen to offer break up to the dominating right-handed line.

Such variety brings difficulty for the bowler to bowl to two different-handed batsmen which helps the batman to move swiftly, successfully, and efficiently. This time Inda lacks such a versatile batting lineup which can be a point of loss at the big stage.

Bowling Prowess

The good thing is the inclusion of 3 pacers Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, and Jasprit Bumrah who can be really effective in the field. Seamers are now a much-needed asset for any team in the big events as they provide the breakthrough to the team to out the opening pair early in the match to dominate the game.

Overall, the current announced team lacked a variety of bowling options. The ODIs require a strong bowling lineup to bowl all 50 overs with versatility of pace and spin bowling.
