The Global China Initiative (GCI) established the fully funded Global China Fellows Program. This fellowship will be held at Boston University in the United States. We accept applications from all over the world for the fully funded fellowship program. The Global China Fellows (GCF) fellowship program aims to engage participants in policy-oriented research while educating them about China’s influence on world events. Boston University researchers will collaborate and interact with the fellows. The Global China Fellows Program’s main goal is to develop and shape the next generation of intellectual leaders who can support research on China’s engagement and economic activity abroad that is pertinent to policy. GCI Work Streams
In order to conduct research on China’s engagement and foreign economic activities that is relevant to policy, participants will collaborate with researchers from the GDP Center, BU faculty members, and institutions situated in the Global South. Fellows are paired with BU faculty members or Senior Academic Researchers from the GDP Center. To work on one of the four GCI workstreams—
- Data Analysis for Transparency and Accountability (D.A.T.A.);
- Forestry, Agriculture, Indigenous Rights and the Belt and Road Initiative (FAIR-BRI);
- Energy and Climate
- China and the International Financial Architecture
In order to inform policy decisions, the Global China Fellows Program has a track record of bridging the knowledge gap between academia and policymakers.
Eligibility Requirements for Application:
- Any nationality is eligible to apply. There are no geographical limitations.
- Applicants must be able to go to the United States in person.
- Students must be qualified for a J-1 visa.
- The dissertation proposal defense and passing of the qualifying exams are prerequisites.
- Postdoctoral candidates must have successfully defended their dissertations.
- Must exhibit a keen interest in studying China’s foreign economic activity, proficiency in doing so, and interaction with international organizations.
- Former fellows are placed in research and academic faculty roles at prestigious institutes such as:
- Peking University
- University of Denver
- Overseas Development Institute
- Boston Consulting Group
